Ryota IgarashiMultiple media reports suggest that the Mets are on the verge of signing Japanese set up pitcher Ryota Igarashi to a two-year deal.

Igarashi, a 30-year-old righty, posted a 3-2 record with Yakult in 2009 with a 3.19 ERA. he's spent most of his career as a set up man, but did have 37 saves as the Swallows closer in 2004. On the mildly concerning side, he had Tommy John surgery in 2007.

In Japan, he has a career record of 44-27 with a 3.26 ERA. Igarashi had been seriously scouted by more than a half-dozen Major League teams this year in anticipation of his being eligible to play in the United States.
