I have been a Mets fan since October 1, 1961, when, at the age of 7, I ran through the house announcing that Roger Maris had just broken Ruth’s regular season home run record. My parents, longtime Brooklyn Dodgers fans, sat me down and explained why, as long as I was living in their house, I was never to do anything like that again. They told me about a new team that was coming in April, called the “Mets,” and they said I was allowed to root for that team. I listened to them. I have been loyal to the Mets for 45 years, through absolutely everything.
In real life, I am a real professor. Of English and American literature at Hofstra. I have written a book, called Mets Fan, about my 45 years as a Mets fan and about all of the experiences Mets fans share. The book will be published this fall and you can read about it, and read samples from it at http://metsfanbook.com. Please also check out my blog at http://metsfanbook.com/blog/
I’m married and have a fifteen-year-old daughter. And like a lot of Mets bloggers but not a lot of Mets fans, I live in southwestern Connecticut.
