I know we aren't going to hear any Mets news until after this borefest of a World Series is over. Are there any other Met fans out there who were just bored to death by the playoffs and now the World Series this year? Or any year that the Mets are not involved in the playoffs? Let's face facts; not being in the playoffs occurs more often than not.
People try to talk to me about the playoffs and I guess since I am such a rabid, die-hard Mets fan, they expect that I would watch anyone playing the game. I have to say if the Mets are not involved I couldn't care less. I had some interest in watching the Indians beat the Yankees, and had there been a Yankees-Red Sox ALCS I would have maybe checked in on the games just to see the scores. Other than that, I just have absolutely no interest.
It's not that I am not a fan of the game, but the playoffs and World Series mean absolutely nothing to me when my guys are not involved, especially a Colorado-Boston World Series. It's not even a old-time classic match-up. You know, like a Cubs-Red Sox series may have piqued some of my interest. Maybe I could have sat through an inning or two of a Cleveland-Philadelphia series. I guess I am just a traditional kind of gal. If the World Series continues to be anything like the first game where Boston creamed Colorado, it has definitely lived up to my expectations.
I did try to tune into some of the playoff games, but I felt bitter and displaced after how our boys in Orange and Blue fell apart they way they did. I said to myself, I am a baseball fan, how can I feel this way about the playoffs? But I just couldn't get myself to be interested. I am the same way if my teams are not involved in the playoffs with other sports too. I really wanted to have an interest but it never happened. I think it's because I am so passionate about the Mets that I just don't have anything left for another team. I suppose if I were a bandwagoner like a lot of Yankee fans I would be able to watch but I just feel so strongly about the Mets that it's an all or nothing proposition for me.
I think a lot of Met fans feel the way I do. We invest so much feeling in this team that we have nothing left to give another. I think the Mets should feel honored that their fans feel the way we do, and we certainly deserve better than some lame-ass form letter from Jeff Wilpon apologizing to us. Just shut up and do better already.
So I guess the rest of the baseball world is at a stand still until the excitement of the Red Sox-Rockies Fall Classic is over. As for me? I will be watching paint dry; it's a little more interesting.
