B-Mets' Stewart Named EL Player Of The Month

Portland, ME — The Eastern League is pleased to announce that Binghamton Mets outfielder Caleb Stewart has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of May. After finishing the month of April with a .256 batting average, the 6’2”, 230 lb. slugger greatly improved in the month of May, batting .364 (39-for-107) with six doubles, six home runs, 29 RBI, 24 runs scored, eight walks, two stolen bases, a .589 slugging percentage and a .407 on-base percentage in 30 games during the month while raising his batting average over 75 points. Stewart, a native of Rush, Kentucky, had at least one hit in 22 of the 30 games he played in during the month, including a 16-game hitting streak from May 9th-26th, which is tied for the second longest streak in the league this season. Caleb also reached base in 25 out of the 30 games he played in during May and recorded at least one RBI or run scored in all but 10 games he played in.

The 24-year old is currently among the league leaders in a number of offensive categories, including RBI (36-tied 2nd), batting average (.321-4th), home runs (8-tied 5th), slugging percentage (.509-6th), OPS (.867-8th) and runs scored (30-tied 10th). Led by the performance of Stewart, the B-Mets won a league-high 19 games during the month of May and are now only four games out of a playoff spot in the Northern Division standings.

Stewart, who was also named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending May 20th, was selected by the New York Mets in the 22nd round of the 2004 draft after hitting .329 (72-for-219) with 20 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs, 50 runs scored and 37 RBI in 54 games during his senior season at the University of Kentucky
