Note: If you disagree with any rankings, here is your chance to be heard: We are offering F.U. readers the chance to send in their own top 10 rankings of the Mets farm system, which, if we get enough submissions, will be published at a later date. If you are interested, drop me a line at: matthimelfarb@gmail.com No scam, no need for social security numbers; just your first name with your own personal rankings is all that is required

1. Fernando Martinez: A tough year for F-Mart, who hit just .271//.336/.377 and was subject to stark criticism from scouts before sustaining a hand injury… still just 19

2. Deolis Guerra: His velocity and changeup continues to improve… now needs a full season as a starter to show it off

3. Kevin Mulvey: Draws comparison’s to Fausto Carmona for the nice sink on his low 90’s FB… secondary stuff might keep him from dominating in the big leagues

4. Nick Evans: Impressive power (.476 SLG %) in the FSL and improved plate discipline (0.82 BB/K ratio) has him slated for an everyday spot in the big leagues… Question is where?

5. Jonathon Niese: Showed improved command (5.4% BB Rate) while exerting a sometimes un hittable CB… Should make a fine number three in the big leagues.

6. Francisco Pena: Rushed his first full year and it showed (.212/.265/.286 in addition to defensive troubles)… expect some type of rebound at Savannah in 08.

7. Mike Carp: Numbers against southpaws (.174/.211/.211) might improve with maturity… needs to work on his plate discipline and have a full, healthy season before he looks to jump over Evans.

8. Philip Humber: Decent numbers at 24 in the PCL (20.5% K Rate 7.5% BB Rate 4.53 ERA.)… Despite decrease in velocity after TJ surgery, he could still make a nice back end starter/middle reliever.

9. Bobby Parnell: Shows potential with mid-high 90’s FB and improving slider… middle relief is likely his future

10. Lucas Duda: USC product made impressive debut in 07 (.299/.388/.462)… St. Lucie in 08.

11. Brant Rustich: Closer like stuff has him the highest ranked Mets draft pick in the eyes of many… not me.

12. Dylan Owen: Where were the scouts at Francis Maron?... FB/Slider combo earned him Sterling Award in 07.

13. Dillon Gee: Achieved just as much if not better success than Owen (22.4% K rate 3.6% BB rate)… look for both to be in St. Lucie in 2008.

14. Scott Moviel: 6”7 footer had impressive debut in GCL (3.07 era. 6.7% BB Rate)… Look for improved FB and sinking CH in Savannah in 08.

15. Daniel Murphy: Well disciplined hitter came back from injury to capture Sterling Award… next year’s Binghamton campaign should determine if he can play everyday

16. Brahiam Maldonado: Saturated with impressive tools... spacious parks in FSL should test his power output next year.

17. Nathan Vineyard: Projectable lefty who enjoyed a solid debut in 07. (25.7% K Rate 8% BB Rate)

18. Eddie Kunz: Mets top pick signed late to get any serious playing time in Brooklyn… look for him to accelerate to the big leagues as quick as Joe Smith did.

19. Nick Carr: Sports mid 90’s FB and solid slider as his out pitch… Likely headed to Savannah in 08.

20. Gavin Dlouhy: Aussie signing had terrific debut with GCL in 07. (34. % K Rate 6.7% BB Rate)… Will provide yet another potential stud for the Sand Gnats 2008 rotation.

21. Sean McCraw: Options at catcher in lower minors should push him to Binghamton in 08. Needs to improve power. (.364 SLG% w/Savannah/S.L.)

22. Hector Pellot: Rebounded from ugly 06 to finish at St. Lucie (.275/.348/.388)

23. William Morgan: Another promising 07 draftee (28.5% K Rate 5.8% BB rate w/Brooklyn)

24. Jacob Ruckle: For second year in a row, pitched fine at St. Lucie (3.48 era. 4.2% BB Rate)… whether it will be as a starter or reliever, soft stuff will be tested in Binghamton in 08.

25. Jose Jimenez: Take for what it is worth, but Jimenez continues to put up impressive numbers. (.309/.379/.521 w/ Kingsport)… Expect the 20 year-old to head straight to St. Lucie next year.

Disclaimer

Our rankings are based on first hand observations, a comprehensive statistical analysis, as well our consultation with members of the media. We stick to the normal rules for player eligibility; less than 50 innings pitched for pitchers and less than 150 at-bats for position players.
