BINGHAMTON, NY – One of the Mets top prospects, Mike Carp will be sidelined anywhere between four and five weeks with a broken bone in his ring finger. The injury occurred when Carp was sliding into second base on a routine double play. New Britain shortstop Trevor Plouff hit Carp’s hand as he was attempting to complete the double play on his throw to first base.
"It still hurts, but otherwise I feel good," Carp said before Friday's game against Portland. "It was kind of a fluke injury."
The 20yr old Carp is rated as the Mets 8th prospect by Baseball America and was hitting .267 with two home runs and 7 RBI before the injury, but was heating up recently with a six game hitting streak.
This was a tough break for Carp, but with it still being early in the season he’s keeping a positive outlook. "It's always tough when you start a new level," Carp said. "With the cold weather and all that, it was tough. I was really starting to feel comfortable. But it's early in the season. I'll still get a lot of at-bats."
