NEW ORLEANS – The Pacific Coast League tabbed New Orleans left fielder Chip Ambres as their ‘Batter of the Week’ honoree for the past week.
Ambres, posted a .586 avg and collected three home runs with 10 RBI and scoring 14 runs, while gathering up a total of 17 hits in the the five games played over that span. The Texas native had the biggest game of the week by going 5-5 with two home runs and four RBI against Iowa in the Zephyrs losing effort. In this time, Ambres, the first round selection of the Florida Marlins in 1998 has seen his avg jump from .267 to .310. This is his first year in the New York Mets organization.
The Zephyrs have to go all the way back to 2004 to find Mike Coolbaugh, the last player to win this award.
