El Duque Sharp For Six As Mets Top Birds

Posted Friday, March 23, 2007

Orlando Hernandez pitched six strong innings, matching his spring total to date, giving up only one unearned run as the Mets beat the Cardinals 2-1 on a late RBI single by Damion Easley. Jon Adkins, Pedro Feliciano, and Aaron Heilman followed with scoreless innings of work with Heilman getting credited with the save, his first of the exhibition schedule.

David Newhan drove in the other Mets run, driving in Sandy Alomar, Jr., with an RBI single in the sixth. Shawn Green went 0-3, dropping his spring average to .145. The Mets are now 9-15-1 in Grapefruit League action and feature split squad action for the final time this preseason with Baltimore visiting Tradition Field and the "B" Mets travelling to Jupiter to face the Marlins.
