LOS ANGELES, CA – The 2007 season has been nothing but unkind for Mets second baseman Jose Valetin and last nights foul ball that struck his lower leg just continued him on that same path of bad misfortune for the 37 year old.
Valentin, who missed most of this year already because of a partial tear of his ACL in his right knee and has been playing with a brace to this point, fractured his tibia bone in his lower right leg. Although it’s speculative at the moment on how long this injury may keep him out, its pretty obvious that his season may be in jeopardy.
Jose Valentin to this point was hitting .241/.302(obp) in 166 at bats for the Mets this season. Ruben Gotay, a fan favorite and who has been swinging a hot bat most of the year playing sporadically will most likely see more steady action at second base for the immediate future.
