Duaner Sanchez had to cut short his Thursday workout after only eleven pitches after hearing a "pop" emanating from his throwing shoulder. An examination by Dr. Dan Tomlinson revealed no damage to the shoulder and Sanchez himself reported no extreme pain during or after his throwing. It is suspected that the sound was likely the result of the break up of scar tissue remaining from his surgery. Sanchez will be shut down for two days but the incident isn't expected to cause a delay in his return to action, which is expected to be some time in May.
Sanchez, after being injured in a Taxi accident last July in Miami, drew concerns by Omar Minaya and the organization after a change in his throwing motion this spring. Sanchez was 5-1 with an ERA of 2.60 leading up to the accident and had drawn criticism from manager Willie Randolph this spring by showing up late and overweight.
