Sierra In, Standridge Out

New York announced that righthanded pitcher Jason Standridge, who was designated for assignment on January 26th, has elected free agency.
Standridge, 28, was claimed off waivers by the Mets on November 20, 2006. He went 1-1 with a 4.82 ERA in 21 games with the Cincinnati Reds last year. In 18.2 innings, he allowed 17 hits, 14 runs, earned, with 14 walks and 18 strikeouts.

The Mets also announced that they have signed free agent outfielder Ruben Sierra to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
In 14 games with the Minnesota Twins last year, Sierra hit .179 (5-28) with four RBI.

For his career, Ruben, 41, has compiled a .268 (2,152-8,044) batting average with 306 home runs and 1,322 RBI with the Rangers, Athletics, Yankees, Reds, Blue Jays, White Sox, Tigers, Mariners and Twins.
